I was in my late twenties, sitting on a friend’s living room floor, trying to help her thread a loom for the first time. She’d followed the tutorial exactly. She had the right materials. She was still nearly in tears, because none of it made sense.

That wasn’t her fault. It was the fault of whoever wrote the guide.

I’d already spent years writing craft content by then, and that afternoon I finally saw the pattern I’d been missing: too many guides are written by people who’ve forgotten what it feels like not to know something yet. That was the moment I understood what I actually wanted to do with my career.

Why Beginners Deserve Better

With over a decade in textile arts, DIY education, and digital content creation, I’ve sat through more editorial meetings than I can count, watching content built for people who were already confident — never for the person picking up a needle or a shuttle for the very first time.

That’s not a small oversight. It’s the difference between someone finishing a project and quietly shoving the materials in a drawer, never to try again.

JustOneCraft exists because I decided craft content needed a version that didn’t assume confidence beginners don’t have yet.

If You’ve Ever Stared at a Blank Canvas or an Empty Loom

I write for people who want to make something with their hands but don’t yet trust themselves to try. You might be:

  • Someone who’s never picked up a needle, hook, or shuttle and doesn’t know where to start

Whichever of these you are, I write the guides I wish had existed when I was starting out.

A Few Things About Me

I keep every project I’ve ever finished, even the ugly ones, in bins in my studio — proof that skill comes from repetition, not talent. I’ve never finished a cup of tea before it went cold.
My own work has been featured in two independent craft zines, and I still contribute patterns to our community library, because writing about craft and making it are different muscles, and I don’t want to lose either.

Every guide here is fact-checked with practicing artisans and reviewed by me personally, no matter who wrote the draft.

Before anything goes live, I ask one question: would someone picking this up for the very first time feel confident after reading it? If not, it gets rewritten.

One Last Thing

The intimidation you feel looking at a blank canvas isn’t proof you don’t belong there. It just means no one’s explained it to you the right way yet.
